Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated IP vandal, despite talk page warnings. Vestrian24Bio 10:15, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Warn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. BusterD (talk) 11:58, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Reason: The article has been repeatedly vandalized by unregistered users and IPs, causing unnecessary disruption. Given that it's a new and controversial topic, the constant editing wars and vandalism are making it difficult to maintain its integrity. Semi-protection would help ensure that only more experienced users can contribute, preserving the quality of the content. Bolly ka Badshah (talk) 10:22, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Temporary semi-protection provides a limited, but essential, layer of security, offering protection for a period of time to prevent vandalism or disruption, while still allowing for contributions from a broader range of users. Bolly ka Badshah (talk) 10:24, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Toxic:_A_Fairy_Tale_for_Grown-Ups page is here now Bolly ka Badshah (talk) 12:52, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined You just created that article today. It seems premature to protect it. As an aside, unregistered users and IPs are the same thing. Bbb23 (talk) 13:35, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Presisting adding of unreference info. Myrabert01 (talk) 13:10, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 13:36, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Reason: High level of IP vandalism. Minakshi Pillai (talk) 13:12, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection for one or more pages in this request was recently made, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 13:22, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Warn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Lectonar (talk) 13:26, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

- @Minakshi Pillai and Mr.fakepolicy: I looked deeper since I recall declining a request on this topic yesterday, and I see that both of you seem to prefer edit warring to discussing the changes you disagree about on the article talk pages. Both of you need to start discussing your disagreements or trying other forms of dispute resolution. If you continue edit warring instead, I will block you both. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:32, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Persistent de-stabilization and please restore this stable version [1] if the edit warring constant. Mr.Hanes Talk 14:04, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined. Pages will not be full protected indefinitely, period. The article was full protected 5 days ago because of edit warring, and the same editors resumed edit warring as soon as that protection expired. Our only remaining recourse is to block those editors. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:38, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Then, I am requesting temporary full protection for the page because it is being disturbed repeatedly. Mr.Hanes Talk 15:00, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. I agree that we usually do not fully protect indefinitely. But: there seems to be a (rough) consensus on talk on how to proceed... which is ignored by a single user; better to deal with this on a direct base instead of locking the whole page down. Lectonar (talk) 15:19, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Then, I am requesting temporary full protection for the page because it is being disturbed repeatedly. Mr.Hanes Talk 15:00, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Reason: This article about a for-profit university is the target of repeated additions of promotional text, and removal of sourced critical information, by IPs and new accounts. Maybe semi-protection would be appropriate? I'm editorially involved and can't do it myself. Sandstein 14:19, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:44, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Reason: Repeated efforts by IP editors ([2], [3]) to restore article against recent AfD consensus for a redirect. Dclemens1971 (talk) 14:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. This is equivalent to EC creation protection. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:08, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Consistent efforts by one or more likely COI IP editors to add non-NPOV content/whitewash existing content. BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 15:01, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Semi-protected indefinitely. The subject of this article has sued Wikipedia over this page's content; we need to be careful to make sure our content accurately reflects the sources in use, and the IPs going back and forth aren't helping. I'll make a post at BLPN. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:34, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent removal/tampering of sourced info. HistoryofIran (talk) 15:18, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
